In less than 2 weeks and with fingers crossed, the same weather as it is today, the St Georges Day 10km run will be taking place, Saturday 26th April 2014.
Organised by Great Langdale Road Races, the route starts at the New Dungeon Ghyl in Great Langdale and has an emphasis on fun. The race sees runners experience an immensely scenic route starting at the New Dungeon Ghyl, along to The Langdale Estate in Elterwater and returning to the New Dungeon Ghyl. It will be the 12th St Georges 10k to date and with it’s huge popularity, now attracts 500 runners from all over the UK and no wonder as the Langdale Hotel say it is “arguably one of the most scenic 10k races in the country”.
Local support has always been a major factor in the success of putting on these events. From the very beginning, the Langdale Hotel has supported and has continued to do so year on year. Other sponsors and supporters include Heart of the Lakes, 1st Frame, Run3 and Sports Sunday Photography with the main sponsors being Flameco.
Having started with the Christmas Pudding 10k, the success prompted the organisers to stage the full and half marathon races. Great Langdale Road Races now offer further races, including fun events to allow people of all abilities and ages to enter and enjoy.Choose from this the St George’s 10k, the Herdwick and Christmas Pudding 10k’s to half and full marathon’s each year.
